Opposition leader and anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny was attacked along with a group of accompanying activists at Anapa airport in southern Russia, by the Black Sea.

Navalny described the attackers who were equipped with traditional hats and, some, with uniforms like Cossacks. Members of Cossack militias who supported the Kremlin in the annexation of Crimea have in the past carried out attacks on opposing voices of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

One of the attackers stated that the initial objective was only to send milk and insults against Navalny, but that the situation degenerated into violence after an alleged elbow from one of the activists who accompanied the leader of the Russian opposition.
