Messina - Second edition of the Festa du pipi russu - strill.it
From June 6 to 9, Piazza Unione Europea returns to its former glory, taking on the role of location for major events, as happened in the 50s and 60s, thanks to the second edition of the Festa du pipi russu, sponsored by the Municipality of Messina, thanks to the support of the councilors Dafne Musolino, Pippo Scattareggia and Massimiliano Minutoli, a festival dedicated to the king of spices, considered a real cure-all for our health thanks to its innumerable nutritional properties and its ability to stimulate the cardio vascular system.
Creator and patron of the festival, the president of the Canterini Peloritani Tradizioni Popolari Study Center, Lillo Alessandro, always a promoter of local traditions and history, exported all over the world thanks also to his Canterini Peloritani group and to the numerous publications focused on the enhancement of traditions . We are therefore not surprised by the idea of this novelty linked to one of the oldest and most used spices in Mediterranean cuisine, chilli. There will be 4 days of festivities, with tastings of the typical dishes of our province, of zero km products such as salami and cheeses, of music, dancing, joy but also of scientific insights as in the case of the round table, coordinated by the journalist Letizia Lucca, entitled: Chili pepper: food or medicine? who will see the report by dr. Salvatore Totaro, internist and clinical nutritionist, cardiovascular expert and Angelo Latella of the chili pepper Academy. A second round table, coordinated by Carmelo Picciotto, president of Confcommercio Messina, entitled The opportunities of the culinary art of the metropolitan city of Messina, will see interventions by Giuseppe Restuccia, trustee for Messina of Slow Food, Corrado Andrè president of ANAPA Messina and other experts in the sector.
But the festival wants to be an opportunity to enhance our territory considered in all its facets; not only food but also culture thanks to the tribute to Tano Cimarosa, one of the most appreciated actor, director and screenwriter in Italy and Messina doc. Remembered by most for his masterful interpretation of the mafioso Zecchinetta in Damiano Damiani's The Day of the Owl and then again of his role in The Doctor of Mutuality alongside Alberto Sordi, as well as of course other important interpretations. To remember this important figure, his nephew Salvatore Arimatea, also a doctor and director, who will trace a profile of his illustrious relative in a conference dedicated to the Messina director
The Patron of the Festival, Lillo Alessandro, in the wake of the events he organized during his long career, wanted to give space to fun with moments dedicated to music and dance.
It therefore promises a party in style, in which citizens will enjoy not only the delicacies that will be offered every day in the stands that will be set up in the square but also traditional and non-traditional music, moments of conviviality, meeting and at the same time will be able to to acquire scientific knowledge useful to health. Therefore we will eat typical local dishes, but also of playfulness and culture !!
