Men's golf takes third place in the Rhodes Fall Classic - Denison University's Big Red series
TUNICA, Miss. Denison's men's golf, which proved worthy of second place by the Christian Christian Early, rounded off the 2019 Rhodes College Fall Classic with third place in the Tunica National competition on Monday afternoon. With 54 points (877) (+13), Big Red scored a single-shot fourth-place finish at Webster University, finishing third. The University of Southwest landed in second place with a team score of 873 (+9), Huntingdon College took the team title with three rounds of 846 (-18).
Competeing against 20 teams and 104 different players on the pitch, Big Red was led by Early, who posted three-down-par 69 in his final round to place the overall second -11 (205). He finished just three strokes behind Huntingdon's Drew Mathers, who took home the individual title with a time of 202 (-14). & Nbsp; In his last round, early carded five chicks. In the first and second rounds, he tore the birds out of 12 on his 36th August. & Nbsp;
Sophomore Marc Mitchell answered in the second round with a result of 73 (+1) in the third round when he finished the weekend in 13th place with 217. & Nbsp; Mitchell signed the checkboxes with numbers 6, 14 and 15. & Nbsp; Par-5 On Aug. 15, Mitchell played it -4 in three rounds thanks to an eagle in Sunday's opening round. Junior Will Grady fired the best result of the day in Big Red with two under-par-70s, finishing his tournament in 226th place (+10) with a draw to 37th place. & Nbsp; It was one of the best 69 rounds of his career, posted last year at the Camp Lejeune Invitational.
Ben Scherman rounded out points 229 (79, 76, 74) for team DU through three rounds, finishing in 52nd place. Connor Holleran also competed on behalf of Denison, resulting in 237 (82, 77, 78), who tied for 79th place.
The big red will return to action on Saturday, October 5, as they travel to Danville, Ky. To compete in the Center College Fall Shootout.
