3. Group match at the European Championships - Swiss volleyball players can only challenge Russia at the beginning - Sport - SRF
The Swiss national team had sold well and expensive as a blatant outsider against the record world champion and European champion. In the end, however, Switzerland lost in three sets with 26:28, 19:25, 9:25.
Coach Timo Lippuner's team kept up a good first set and were in the lead in the meantime. Russia seemed to have been surprised by the way the Swiss played. The Nati won in round 1 at the score of 25:24 a set ball, but could not use this.
The Russians, on the other hand, knew how to use their chance to win the first round. In the second set, Switzerland also kept up well and was in the lead for a long time. However, the favorite did not let up and could win the decisive points. The second sentence went to Russia.
The team of Lippuner could not oppose the Russian game in the third set much. Although Switzerland tried again to fight into the game, but had to defeat despite sacrificing struggle. A prime example of this was the point at 18: 6 (see video below).
In order to move into the knockout phase, the Swiss would have to reach the 4th place in the group of six. For the Nati would have to win at least one of the remaining games, depending on the results in the other games even two games. It would be quite difficult for Switzerland to survive the group stage.
